Anna Paquin is a Canadian and New Zealand actress. Born in Winnipeg and raised in Wellington Paquin began her acting debut in the role of Flora McGrath in the romantic drama film The Piano for which she was awarded the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress at age 11 making her the second-youngest winner to win an award within Oscar history. Following a prompt to auditions open at age nine, and with little prior experience acting the actress was chosen for Flora McGrath's role. Flora is the child of a Scottish pianist who was mute. They relocated into New Zealand during the middle of the nineteenth century to get married. As a teenager, she moved to the United States. Paquin was chosen to play the role of the child in Franco Zeffirelli's Jane Eyre in the year 1996. She also played the lead role as a lead character in Fly Away Home, a film from the same year. Paquin portrayed Frankie Addams as a child in the TV film adaptation Carson McCullers novel The Member of the Wedding. Paquin was also in the role of the queen of Spain, in Steven Spielbergs 1997 movie Amistad. The actress played teenagers as teens in Hurlyburly (1998), She's All That (1998), A Walk on the Moon (1998) as well as Almost Famous (2000). She also portrayed the groupie Polexia Aphrodisa.
